Persian shield in the garden ~

Sterling roses in bloom ~

As are the blackberries!

Blackberry spritzer with fresh mint from the garden as well, in one of my great-grandparents' mint julep cups:

Pretty!

(And oooh, your blackberries are ripe already? Lucky thing. Ours won't be for another month at least.)

There are some still in the red/wine phase, but yes, already blackening to perfection! I had no idea just how many grow naturally around here... we found a motherload so tall you'd need the neck of a giraffe to reach the uppermost portions. Happily there's plenty for us to pick some whilst leaving ~more~ than enough for all the other creatures who live in the area :)

Thank you ~ the spoon's one of C's family heirlooms... They're too nice not to use and actually enjoy!

They're such a unique colour, even though I sometimes think they're somewhat of a fragile beauty compared to some of the more robust crimsons and other shades. What they may lack in longevity, they make up for in beauty :)

I couldn't agree more.
That pale yet conforting colour always reminds me of dirty white fabric roses that you find in old graveyards (everybody loves plastic flowers here in Portugal...), that seem to freeze in time.

Oooh! Sterling Silver is the very first rose I ever fell in love with. My mother took me to the LA museum, and they have a rose garden there. I saw that lavender rose (I was a child in love with the color lavender) and swooned. Sadly, I have yet to find a lavender rose hardy enough to live up here. I even you that rose!

The first time I ever saw them (probably in a picture long ago), I was thrilled that they even came in such a colour. This is the first year we've had our own though, and it's a pleasure every time a new bloom opens!

Just one of those little perfections of Nature... now I'm thinking it makes sense that we have a community of animals (rabbits, skunk, deer, birds, etc...) around here since they certainly are being provided with plenty of food to eat!

Yes they are!!

My mother came home with a bunch of blackberries yesterday -- you wouldn't happen to want to post the recipe for that yummy-looking drink, would you? :)

We were lucky enough to find some blackberry cabernet sorbet, and just mixed it up with some seltzer (I think it was raspberry or pomegranate... but maybe it was blackberry too), topped off with the fresh mint :)

Purple days are the very best days.

It's mulberry season in these parts. When I was a kid, there was an immense mulberry tree on my parents' street. I tried mashing up mulberries to dye my hair when I was about nine. It turns out that mulberries stain just about everything except for hair. Nonetheless, it was a very delicious failed experiment. Purple!
