Exhibit mention in Harpers!
Jul. 28th, 2008 12:21 pmThanks to a heads up from
scarletfaewind, I found out that the August copy of Harper's Bazaar is listing the upcoming Gothic: Dark Glamour exhibition on its "Hot List"!

Not only that, but I was thrilled to see there is also an art nouveau jewelry exhibition called Imperishable Beauty going on in Boston at the same time! I was already wanting to make a quick trip up to Boston/Salem afterwards if time permitted since JetBlue lets you fly in/out of different cities for no additional charge as a chance to visit local friends and haunts for a day or two before getting back to work, so now this has become a must! (For those of you who don't know, I adore art nouveau jewelry ~ I even wrote an in-depth article on it for "The Sentimentalist" magazine several years ago.)
Also, we found a new place to move into! This means the next couple of weeks will involve cleaning it top to bottom, replacing carpet and removing wallpaper, (and let's not forget the actual moving itself) in any hour that can be squeezed in between the other stuff going on. If you're expecting an email from me, it might take a bit longer than usual, but rest assured I'll be responding pronto as soon as I can :)

Date: 2008-07-28 04:36 pm (UTC)Thank goodness they made a book to go along with it, so we'll have something to remember it by afterwards... That way I'll be more convinced it isn't all a dream!

Best of luck with the move. As for the exhibition... uh oh. That's like a no-touchie candy store...

And I hear you on the candy store analogy ~ I have a feeling at that Art Nouveau jewelry exhibit, I'll be *wishing* some of the pieces were available for purchase, and then I'll be wishing they'd cost what they did 100 years ago!

Date: 2008-07-28 06:38 pm (UTC)I think it was the intense work required for the exhibition? I got the impression you were personally dressing the mannequins, etc! (Not sure where that came from!) Or perhaps I thought it was that
Oh, pretty jewels. I tend to like to take a camera to remember favorite pieces with, if they allow it!
Which reminds me. After you pointed out that hidden bat in that brocade, I took to designing laces the following day, and one day have to come up with some kind of bat-lace concoction to share with you, if I can translate what's in my head onto paper. (It doesn't always work that well!)

Date: 2008-07-29 06:01 pm (UTC)The bat lace sounds fantasic ~ definitely something I'd pick up if I saw it!

I think lace patterns have the potential to be overdone, to be messy and cluttered, though... devising an elegant one... hm, yes, should try it! (Though I wonder how one might get from a drawing to actually making a lace from it?)

Date: 2008-07-28 06:47 pm (UTC)You're going to be so happy with the gown I made to wear with your hat ~ I've been working on it non-stop for days, and it's finally to the point of just a few more finishing touches and it will be ready. We should be able to get some terrific photos with this!

Date: 2008-07-28 07:15 pm (UTC)I can't wait to see the gown! I bet it'll be awesome :D
Good luck with getting all those lovely housing things taken care of :( They're not fun at all, but finally having a place should hella take a load off. :D
I'll see you in just a little while at C14 :D

Date: 2008-07-29 02:45 pm (UTC)I've ridden the Peter Pan bus up to Boston from NYC before, but was hoping for a car ride this time since I will have lots of extra outfits on hand. Too bad your schedule probably doesn't permit it, because it would have been very cool to do a Boston sidetrip with you after the opening weekend :)

Date: 2008-07-29 08:25 pm (UTC)This semester is all knitwear and its the first semester of the BFA program..so I have no days off :( however....there is always the weekend ;)
Lucky Star Bus goes from chinatown to chinatown for only $15 one way....if you end up stuck with the bus..thats the cheapest flat out.

Date: 2008-07-29 08:51 am (UTC)I also just read about the Project Runway thing - awesome! Project Runway is my first *and longest lasting* t.v. addiction since we first got cable 3 years ago. I think you would have blown the judges away on every challenge. ;D

Date: 2008-07-30 02:51 am (UTC)I am going to ask geoff about the ride, I do not drive (My eyes are not good enough for it) and he is the one with the car, I do know at the very least we could drive you to the New Haven train station and you can cut your train ride and cost in half by getting the train from New Haven to Boston.
But let me ask the Geoff if he is up for it.
