Yesterday, we called to see what time we could come by to pick up the little sparrow, and found out that he... Miss(ter) Sparrow, (I had the markings confused) had passed away during the night. We had to keep calling back to find out what happened, but the truth is they just didn't know. They think it may have been a head wound because the x-rays didn't show any broken bones. The day after we brought him in, he sat up on a branch and was eating, but then when we called the next morning, they went to check on him and found him at the bottom of the cage, lifeless. I've been rather sad about it. That said, we really did try, and I hope he knew he was cared for. That's the thing with helping animals ~ it can be different from helping humans because you can't verbally explain things to them. It's all based on feelings, looks conveyed through the eyes, gentle inflections in the voice... Even though they are scared in those moments, you just have to hope they feel and know you are trying to help.

That said, I was so, so happy a wish I made came true today when all the people aboard the plane in Toronto survived. I've had to escape a plane that was on fire before, so I know it is possible to do. As soon as I saw the crash, I immediately hoped some of the people at least had gotten out immediately, and sure enough, they did! That made me want to cheer! Their families must feel such gratitude. We all must...

I am sorry about Mr. Sparrow..but we have to try right? Swelling around the brain is why the seagull we tried to save didn't make it. Sadly, none of our bird rescues have been successful..the stress alone on the little birdy heart is so hard that they might not survive being cared for as well. It doesn't mean we won't try again and in most cases its someone bringing a bird to me..why, I don't know..just the way its worked. Its because critters have no voice we must be the voice for them to receive care. He was loved and cared for in his last hours on earth...and that's more than you can say for many people.

So sorry to hear that; you did everything you possibly could have. Birds are such delicate creatures. It is indeed heartwarming to hear that all passangers made it out.

Oh, Honey...I am so sorry to hear that your little man didn't make it. I know how much you cared and how much you were willing to do, and he had every possible chance because of your giving nature.
Now he flies forever in birdie heaven.

I'm sure the reason people bring the birds needing help to you is because they can tell that you are an openly caring soul.

I suppose the fact that the birds are so delicate is something that is so appealing to us about them as well...

It really is a miracle that everyone got out alive! After having been so despondent, that made me truly happy.

He was such a sweet little bird. Most of the time, he would remain calm and not put up too much of a fuss. I can still hear the other sparrows chirping outside where we found him, it gives me a bittersweet comfort to know they're there.

aw, that is too bad about the little sparrow. I am sure it knows how much you cared for it.
It was quite surreal to see the smoke coming from the airport. Crashes like that don't generally happen here.
I am not fond of flying and this makes me just the more nervous yet at the same time I have to see it as a sign of hope that even great things can come from a disaster.
