a soul takes flight
Aug. 2nd, 2005 09:06 pmYesterday, we called to see what time we could come by to pick up the little sparrow, and found out that he... Miss(ter) Sparrow, (I had the markings confused) had passed away during the night. We had to keep calling back to find out what happened, but the truth is they just didn't know. They think it may have been a head wound because the x-rays didn't show any broken bones. The day after we brought him in, he sat up on a branch and was eating, but then when we called the next morning, they went to check on him and found him at the bottom of the cage, lifeless. I've been rather sad about it. That said, we really did try, and I hope he knew he was cared for. That's the thing with helping animals ~ it can be different from helping humans because you can't verbally explain things to them. It's all based on feelings, looks conveyed through the eyes, gentle inflections in the voice... Even though they are scared in those moments, you just have to hope they feel and know you are trying to help.
That said, I was so, so happy a wish I made came true today when all the people aboard the plane in Toronto survived. I've had to escape a plane that was on fire before, so I know it is possible to do. As soon as I saw the crash, I immediately hoped some of the people at least had gotten out immediately, and sure enough, they did! That made me want to cheer! Their families must feel such gratitude. We all must...
