~good~ news

At a high school in New Hampshire, the senior students made a decision together to use what they had made during their recent fundraising for a class party to instead pay for a respected teacher who is suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, and has a progressively diminishing range of movement, to travel to France this summer instead. One of the students put it best when he said they would have just used it all to go hang out in an Amusement park for an afternoon and then it would be done, but if they did this for their teacher, who has always shown such passion for the places he has taught them about through the years, it would be a memory that could last him the rest of his life.

Such a refreshing change of pace on the local news :)

This is a context-free aside, but I've been admiring pictures of you and I love how you do your makeup all sort of defined but faded like an old photograph. It's such a beautiful, feminine look. Tips, specific products, techniques? :)

I know I'm overly emotional as of late, but this brought about more tears.
It's so refreshing to find teens who actually give a damn, and who are not selfish. It gives me a little hope for the future. =)

If only more of the world could give such as this...

It's touching because they cared enough to try and see things from another perspective outside of themselves. You don't hear enough of that these days.

Agreed. I hope good things for those kids ~ it bodes very well for the kind (emphasis on "kind") of adults they are becoming!

It would be nice if people and the media focused more on remembering to report good stories like these to help balance out the rest of what we're constantly being bombarded with ~ the positive occurences *are* out there if we just keep our eyes open for them, and kids like this who are doing kind things should get every bit as much attention, if not far more than the school shootings, and other negative attention seekers do.

Thanks for such a kind compliment :)

I'm not sure what I can offer advice-wise since honestly, I don't put all that much thought into it, but I tend to stay away from things like liquid eyeliners, and focus more on just sticking to powdered eyeshadows, which can be layered for intensity. Smoothly blended, good ol' matte or semi-lustre black eyeshadow is a mainstay... My favourite is from Shiseido (I still have an old "Black Variations" which was inspired by the varying degrees of sheen on black lava ~ with three different black eyeshadows in a sleek black case).

I don't use foundation, but my favourite pressed powder is "Paper White" by Charles of the Ritz. I don't think they make that formula anymore, but you can find new ones on eBay sometimes. I'm coming to terms with the fact that I seem to have a bad habit of developing a fondness for products which get discontinued ;)

I hope that helps a little? Let me know if there was something specific you were curious about that I didn't mention.

That's wonderful to hear. *u* It's a shame that we don't hear about things like that more often. Btw, my Dorianne choker arrived yesterday. It's beautiful...thank you!

wow, that was so nice of them. I remember a year or two back there was a drama teacher in a high school in MA who had a similar situation and the Dresden Dolls actually played a gig to raise funds or help make her home wheelchair accessible or something.

Do you know what high school the one you mentioned was? I'm curious...I think I may know who those kind people are.

Hey, it's so nice to hear from you!

I searched around the web trying to figure out which school it was, but couldn't find it. I wish I could remember the details for you, so you could see if it was any friends of yours...

I can totally see the Dresden Dolls doing something kind like that for a local drama teacher... Actually, I seem to remember it that was a time when I would have gone had I not *just* booked tickets to see my mom the day before. I went to their play, "The Onion Cellar" at the ART recently, and they were collecting donations for fellow artists in need after the show, so I think helping peers is something they hold close to heart and that's a really beautiful thing.

I wished so much to be able to see the Onion Cellar, but I'm living in NYC now. I go to school full time at the Fashion Institute and I wasn't able to make it :(

The DD are touring this summer with a bunch of other big artists on the "true colors tour", but seats run for $70 or more! I love them, seen them many times, but am not sure if I want to pay that much.

It's nice to get in contact again. I have been a lurker, not really posting in my journal or GR because of school. I'm practically chained to my dress form and sewing machine ;)

I might be doing a quick roadtrip to NYC in late May/early June, will you still be there? It would be nice to spend some time together :)

It's great to hear that you're pursuing fashion. You have a talent for design (I still remember those works of art you made for the Duct Tape prom contest!). I know all about being chained to the dress form and sewing machine, but those are just our artists' paint and canvas, and there's no real way to escape it ;)

$70 per ticket? Ugh. You should get a free t-shirt with the ticket price! This is where I get all crochety and say "you used to be able to see the Cure for less than $20" :P

Precisely! I can't wait until the Cure come back. At this point, I am willing to put any figure down to get front row or VIP seating...well...almost.

I will be here until the 25th of May, and then I get evicted from the dormitory for the summer. I know of a quaint budget hotel (not to mention friends) who I could stay with if you arrange a day trip or something. I beg if you want to meetup, that it is for after the 25. Finals here are brutal, and the projects I get will be worked on till deadline.

If you need any advice on the best/fastest/cheapest way to sneek down to Gotham, let me know :)
