Gothic Beauty Designer of the Year!
Mar. 30th, 2006 06:44 am
Hi Kambriel,
All the votes have been tallied and you’re the winner for Gothic Beauty’s Readers Choice Award for Designer of the Year 2005. Congratulations! You will receive a crystal engraved award (mid to late April) and a free full page color ad to use in GB.
Now that is what I call a *good* email! Wow.
Thank you so much to everyone who voted for supporting what I do ~ it means more than you could imagine.
When I began designing, I never tried to create what was popular or in demand by the masses (or even by the underground scene), but instead wanted to bring to life an outwards reflection of what I was feeling inside. At that time, I felt so out of place with the modern age and longed for a land filled with veils and shadows, velvet and moonlight. In reality, the world outside screamed with garish commercialism and intolerance for difference. Instead I wanted to create luxury from a darkness that I found both haunting and comforting, and delved as deeply into as possible ~ trading the harshness of light for the softness of shadows.
In those first days, I thought the half-size catalogue of all-black pages, silver ink and nocturnal photos might succeed in reaching a *few* other people out there who would share my aesthetic for the elegance of timelessness and an opulence of the faraway, letting them know they weren't alone... Perhaps I would even meet a couple of like-minded friends along the way, but I never imagined the kindness, appreciation, and support I have felt over the years from so many of you all.
Contrary to those beginnings, I no longer feel isolated in the wrong time and place. Instead, this is a perfect moment when so many of us choose to make the most of our freedom to transform our surroundings into our own personal interpretation of beauty. In this newfound tribe we've formed from an age unlike any other there has ever been, where friends can just as easily come from next door or half a world away, we can revel in our creations and visions together.

Date: 2006-03-30 01:12 pm (UTC)The internet has helped communications so much, I feel happy in places like GR and feel even more like we have a beautiful community for sharing our dark passions!
I got into design because I have to alter everything I buy (nothing fitted fits over my tiny waist and big hips!) then nothing inspired me...
I love your designs, even if some aren't entirely my style, but when/if I get married I would love you to do the corset and skirt. (Though don't hold your breath for a date as he doesn't believe in marriage!)

Date: 2006-03-30 03:04 pm (UTC)I realized something last week while unpacking from a trip I took and I was unpacking my Demonia gown outfit (http://www.kambriel.com/customerdemonia2.jpg). That dress was the very first thing I bought when I started dressing like I actaully wanted too. And that dress I still have almost 10 years later and probably is the only thing I have kept all these years. :)

Date: 2006-03-30 04:24 pm (UTC)i know when i wear my pieces, i feel elegant and like the center or the attention, if you will.
together with your clothing you are personally involved in them, through design to creation and that shows in the quality of work.
no one deserves this aware more then you do, it is a recognition that you are seen, heard, worn and loved for your designs as well as, your name you lovingly place on each tag, on each piece.

Date: 2006-03-30 04:31 pm (UTC)I still get compliments on the scalloped batwing overdress I bought with my babysitting money when I was sixteen. It's been one of my favourite things to wear for five years now.

Date: 2006-03-31 04:47 am (UTC)I am very hopeful for you as well. You're definitely in my thoughts... Do try to clear your head when you go on your upcoming trip, and not let housing issues consume you. I've been through that before too, and things do have a way of working out.
