Convergence 12 Fashion Show

obsequious, I've been saving this as a surprise for you, I hope you'll like my idea.

After creating several fashion shows for Convergences past (starting all the way back to 1996 for Convergence 2 ~ Click here to see photos from my more recent C10 Show), this year I am going to be doing something different. My part of the show will be in honor of nvayne of The Pale Court ~ a beloved friend and fellow designer who tragically passed away last year. I have been completing the unfinished designs that were left at the time of Laura's passing, and will showcase these as part of a special memorial tribute at Erzulie's High Fashion Tea in the Queen Anne Ballroom on the afternoon of Saturday April 15th, 2-4 PM.



I already have some lovely models lined up, but I have openings for a few more. In addition to arriving a full hour before the beginning of the show, all models will need to attend a rehearsal on Friday, April 14. The exact time of this rehearsal hasn't been announced yet, but I will let my models know as soon as this information is available. Models are also eligible for discounted badges if you are still in need of one (email me for a code).

The fashion show coordinator will need the names and contact info (i.e. a cell phone number for while you're in New Orleans) for all models in advance of the show, so models, please email me this info along with some basic measurements (bust/waist/hips/height), at your earliest convenience.

It's definitely my pleasure to help you out, but it's also kind of fitting, since obsequious is a dear friend. And it's just a lovely tribute to a beautifully creative soul, which I will be deeply touched to see happen.

I've never done anything like it before though, so please feel free to inundate me with as much information as you please. :) I can get my cell number to you too, if you'd like to offer that to the models. As you know, I'll be there from Monday the 10th through the 17th.

I hope Daniel will like my idea. I've been saving this as a surprise for him! Since Laura hadn't done a Convergence fashion show before, I thought this would be another thing I could fulfill for her to add just another little chapter to her legacy.

At this point, I'm focusing on selecting which dresses to use, and then adding polishing touches to them. Do send me your info though, since it will be important for the others to have this in case they need to get in touch with you. Even if I can't attend in person, I *will* be there every step of the way with you to answer any questions or solve any issues that come up, so no worries there! It's usually a certainty that there will be at least one problem to arise before a show, and I'll help you through whatever that may be. However, I'm hopeful that Laura's spirit will be with us and she'll help to keep everything flowing beautifully.

I really hope you can go. It such a beautiful tribute and you have worked so hard. Is it a question of finances? I'm sure many people would be willing to help chip in to get you there.

It's a combination of finances and time... I'm still doing the UK project in a few months, so I have a lot of work to do for that, and by not going to NOLA, it will help me to better afford that trip. Luckily, through the help of friends, I should still be able to pull off a great show!

I wish I could make it... your fashion show and of course the BPAL booth... damn it!!!
I can't take a Saturday off, I run the night I DJ and HAVE to be there. :( It sucks as far as trying to take a vacation or go to Convergence. I reallllly wanted to go.

I'm not going to be able to be there in person either, so I understand how you feel! Beth asked if I was going, and I felt so bad saying it didn't look like I could. I wonder if BPAL will have a special blend for Convergence?

I hope you both got some help at the dentist, and that your sweet pup is doing better!

I hope they have a special BPAL blend too... I ahve a friend who is going who said she'd transport a bottle or two to me. :)

I'm so sad you can't make it either!! Beth asked me as well and I felt terrible telling her no. I really would love to meet her in person and the last attempt when she was in Colorado fell through. :(

The dentist gave me a clean bill of health and healing yesterday. Yay! Now just waiting for the pain to subside... :(

I just got a call about Iggy. His procedures went great! He is going to have to have to go back several times to have his dressings redone and stitches refreshed since there was barely any skin for her to patch up his foot where the lump was. That will suck for him, poor little guy. My biggest worry is waiting for the biopsy results though...

well i'd much rather see you there!!!!! and there are lots of nifty new things this year(and 2 days of vending, if you're going to again) and we should be able to pull off a bigger GR meetup as i know for a fact there will be at least one more big member there this time.

though D is cutely tugging at my sleve wanting to go to nola....though i'd rather it not be convergence.....not sure what is going to happen.

Well, now it looks like I may need to go to Convergence. What's holding you back from going yourself?

Not a problem ~ I know you've scaled back on lj, so if more than a day went by, I would have emailed you about it :) I've been planning this for a few months now, and I hope you like the idea. I'm still doing the shoot in England later this year, but this seemed like an excellent opportunity to show off the gowns in person at a show I think Laura would have liked to have been involved in.

That would be so nice if you could attend the show in person. I just have a lot of other expenses/stuff to contend with right now, so it doesn't look like I'll be able to get down there. If something changes, I will let you know.

I wish you all my best wishes with your beautiful and moving tribute, I hope and truly believe that it will be a wonderful and moving success! I took a while to read through your dear friends journal and was deeply touched. She was obviously an extraordinary, beautiful and amazingly talented lady. I'm so very sorry for your loss. What you plan to do seems a very fitting gift to the memory of such a creative being.

Thank you for your kindness. Actually, the main tribute I have planned is for a few months from now. Laura wanted to travel to England (especially the ancient stone circles), but never had the chance to go. So in the coming months, I am going to be bringing the best of the items I complete for her, and take them to England to do a photo shoot in her memory, amidst the places she dreamed of. The photos will be published as a memorial to her in a magazine which she had wanted to be featured in.

It's just my way of trying to have a few more of her dreams fulfilled even though time was taken from her too soon.
