After hunting through literally thousands of fabrics today looking for just the right combination for a special commission from the wickedly talented Molly Crabapple, I found this dark blue cotton & chenille brocade treasure which will be made into a one of a kind coat:

I narrowed it down to a half dozen or so options, but in the end this one blew the others away. Of course it blew them away price-wise too, but ah well ~ it felt like the right one!

I'm so tempted to ask about custom items. I'm going to an event in May at LACMA which makes me want to have something special to wear even if it was just a jacket.

Have you ever thought of collaborating with a fabric artist, or get an artist to design/paint fabric for you?
I've painted a few article of clothing and I love it, it's so much fun and the possibilities are endless

Oh goodness yes. I actually had a brocade company contact me back in the mid-'90's about doing that. The only problem is narrowing down an infinitude of ideas! I paint as well (shockingly, I still have a purse I painted back in high school) ~ it's something I've been recently thinking I should start up again on a more regular basis...
