At long last ~ onstage photos from our Steamcon II Kambriel fashion show in Seattle! The song we performed it to? Aqualung by Jethro Tull... yes, really (though our version was minus the long guitar solo thanks to our friends Summer and Roger kindly remixing it for us)!

A charming snapshot of our write-up in the Steamcon newsprint programme:

On to the Show!

Lisa in a shortened silver and black striped silk version of the Cabaret Jacket, with contrasting solid black silk sleeves decorated with handpieced trimming forming a graphic checkerboard design, worn with a black on black Flared Skirt, and Ice Queen Crown:

Gwen in an ivory georgette Demonia Blouse and fringed choker, worn with a panelled skirt made from forest and tone on tone ivory brocades, and hemmed in hand-cut lace:

Cherie Priest in a lavender and black striped Eleanor Jacket, worn atop a ruffled walking skirt made from iridescent plum silk with an overlay of black lace, Chantilly neck ruff, and feathered raven headpiece:

Chris in a one of a kind brocade capelet with an ivory silk Aramis Shirt, Havisham Jabot, and long sepia Gryffin Waistcoat:

Kambriel in a gown made from a combination of alternating silver and black striped silks edged in pleated satin, with panels of solid black, and a heavily beaded and sequined bodice.

Kevin in a full length Cassock styled overcoat made from black embossed faux alligator trimmed in the back with vintage silver buttons, along with a striped silver and black silk Bastian Shirt:

Veronique in an Edwardian inspired dress made from antique black embroidered Japanese eyelet, framed in vintage crochet at the neckline and shoulders, trimmed in black tasseled fringe, and an applique featuring art by Aubrey Beardsley, worn atop a flock velvet striped black and cream underskirt:

Cherie and Lisa during the final parade down the runway:

We hope you enjoyed the show!

It was a very good show.
It all went by so fast I didn't remember it was a sliver and black stripe silk you were wearing.

It all went by so fast

I know what you mean ~ afterwards, I realized I hadn't gotten to catch sight of where you were seated on Saturday... Otherwise, I'd have been sure to do something silly like wave at you ;)

At first, I was trying to figure out why the copper silk outfit with the patchwork skirt wasn't in these photos, then I realized, these must all be from the Saturday show, hence the red/gold stripes in its place.

While I love all the outfits, the top Gorey robe/coat is BRILLIANT!!!! It also looks PERFECT for the gentleman wearing it!

I love the way that coat turned out ~ I wish you could see a back view of it too! I wanted it to have more flow and flare than a classic lounge style coat to stand up to the personality of the wearer... The colours suited him really well too ~ you can probably tell I get inspired by who the models are going to be as well ;) I'm thinking there will be more of these modified Gorey coats being made in the future ~ probably as a new catalogue offering.

Not bad at all considering the early-bird hours! You guys were terrific, and the reaction the "death ray eyes" K gave the audience got when he made his first appearance on stage was pretty unforgettable ;)

Amazing as always!! I'm so glad the song worked out. :)

I love that silver and black striped silk - to die for! Such luxurious textiles overall! And the designs are so intricate and stunning. I wish I could have seen them in person. You outdid yourself with this one!

The song worked perfectly ~ I only wish you could have been there with us. I found the narrow black and silver silk first (quite expensive!), and then after splurging on that, found the wider stripe for a bit better of a deal (and ironically it was the width I'd originally been searching for). I was bound and determined not to have any of it go to waste though, and decided to combine them together in a completely different way than I'd originally planned and really enjoyed the effect!

It was a good group ~ everyone had a lot of fun hanging out with eachother backstage too... That "family feel" is very important to me, so I'm always so glad when it works out that way :)

Can you believe this was just about a week after we saw you?

Would you have ever guessed I'd choose Jethro Tull? One thing's for sure, my fashion show songs don't tend to be predictable ;)

Which outfits did you like the best?

I know the feeling! I'm usually wrapped up in putting the shows on and don't get to see them from an audience's perspective (or in the case of a group show, get to see the other portions since we're backstage). I don't think there's any video for this one unfortunately, but thank goodness at least for Stopped Motion providing these glimpses :)

Yep :) It's one Alex owns, but it added such a great touch to the rest of the look and felt right, so we went for it. I can appreciate a good Fez (I have a black crushed velvet one myself with "bat" filigree trim from about ten years ago!).

Very, very cool.

And for those on the East coast, who can't attend events in Seattle, here's Philadelphia's Dorian's Parlor.

nom nom on all fronts. Thanks for sharing. Your shoes say hi!
also, how awesome is Jethro Tull? Got to see them a few years ago her in AZ. 60 something and still playing like 20 instruments each AND dancing!

Hi shoes!

Hurrah for a fellow appreciator of Jethro Tull ~ I wasn't sure if anyone would get what I was doing with that, but it just struck me out of the blue as the perfect song to use. Something about how each stanza has it's own feel really works seamlessly with transitioning different outfits and looks to the changes in flow of the music. I wish you could have seen it in person ~ I believe Ian would have approved!

'Twas a de-dark-ful (same as "de-light-ful" but with an elegant, noir-ish twist) sartorial adventure. Merci encore for the kind invitation.

I wish vous would license some dolls to be made, wearing your breath-taking designs. I'd collect them in a heartbeat!

With great eSTEAM,

Thank you! The Japanese eyelet was some I found in my great-grandmother's fabric stash, so it was both intimidating and empowering to finally be able to bring it to life and make it into something. I really love how it came out though, and am considering making a few more once I gather up all the necessary ingredients :)

Everyone looks fabulous, and thank you for posting the video, very nice to have some background music to give us the feel of the event. I love Jillian's outfit, Cherie Priest's too! Curse looks quite lovely of course. And you darling.... always stunning, so very talented and the dress you're wearing in this? I'm going to go put Damion on the street corner to make some money..... I need to buy that dress right now, I *love* it!!!! (Shhhh, I've not told Damion yet he's going on the corner.)

Date: 2011-01-25 10:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kambriel.livejournal.com
Poor Damion, he knows not wherefore you speak! Then again, by now I'm guessing he realizes it's all par for the course ~ especially when Toads are involved ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed the song too ~ I do seem to have a knack for off the wall selections, but it really went perfectly for the overall feel, and the original Jethro Tull was an agricultural pioneer/inventor afterall: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jethro_Tull_(agriculturist)
