Last week, I sent three outfits off to [livejournal.com profile] trillian_stars, and a custom made jacket (made in world record breaking time!) to [livejournal.com profile] kylecassidy for them to wear to Worldcon in Montreal... Well, guess what? Last night was the Hugo awards - the Oscars of the science fiction world - and Trillian won the 2009 Hugo's Best Dressed award! Neil Gaiman won the Hugo Novel of the Year award for "The Graveyard Book", so it was quite a night.

Here are some photos ~ courtesy Kyle Freaking Cassidy:

Trillian summons the mists of Montreal in a nouveau-inspired Orientalist ensemble, with iridescent teal kimono robe, green geisha top, and a flowing multi-paneled skirt:

I'm amazed at how well it all turned out in so short a time ~ the seed for this was planted just about a week ago!

That color combination and just the entire cut of it is just ethereal. You can tell she just floats in it. And lookit Kyle! He cleaned up awfully well too thanks to your talent! :)

Well done all around. *bravo!*

I was telling Trillian that outfit wasn't for everyone, but she really pulls it off! It was like Cinderella's glass slipper :) Wait 'til you see her in this flapper dress I made :)

Doesn't Kyle look terrific?! I had to give him a playful ribbing about how well he was working the wind in the hair for the runway-practice shot.

You're right, you really need that "ambiguous ethnic origin/ gypsy edge" to really do it well and with her curls and full lips, she does.

Tell Kyle to take another pic giving you "blue steel" for the site

Ah, Ben. (I miss the show he had on tv in the early '90's ~ some real gems came from that!)

The outfits are absolutely stunning - you captured them both very well, and they just look like they were dreamed up and spun out of the mists.

Beautiful.

They've both got such a great spirit about them ~ I was easily inspired! The mist truly does look like it was summoned just for her...

I didn't even know there was a Best Dressed award! I was just having a grand time outfitting Trillian & Kyle for the occasion... purely for the fun of it, so imagine my surprise when I heard the news :)

Weird Tales won too!

as did a whole lot of good stuff full list here :http://www.sfsignal.com/archives/2009/08/winners-2009-hugo-awards/

Best Hugo awards ever! The only thing that would have made it better is if Cat and Jay had been up for one and both had won them, but there is next year.

P.S

Trillian's outfit makes me think of the Firefly series, which is a very, very good thing indeed!

Ack! Seriously? Okay, well... Joss Whedon does space cowboys. Literally. It's really quite well done (at least in my opinion). It's too bad the show got canceled so soon. But make sure to watch the show first, and then watch the movie 'Serenity'.

Ah, it's so lovely! Ok,so....there's a space craft called Serenity, which is flown by a crew of renegades. It takes place in some nebulous time in the future where the culture and fashion have a lot of Asian influences. Like all really good Science Fiction, the story is about the complex character interactions. The crew consists of 3 soldiers from the losing side in the last war, a female mechanic, a thug, a erudite doctor, his "troubled" sister, an esteemed courtesan, and a preacher. You should definitely rent it! :)

Interesting ~ thanks for the description! One of these days I really should sign up for Netflix ~ I just keep putting it off for when there's more "downtime", which is a bad strategy as it's already been a few years and I still haven't signed up yet... I know there are lots of things I'd like to catch up & watch though :)

Hmmm... how to put this in a non-creepy way? Oh my dear, seeing pictures of your work gets me all... well, excited. *grin*

Seriously, though, I love seeing what you've been working on. It helps keep me motivated some days. Reminds me what can be built if you keep up the hard work and keep dreaming.

It's true though... and kind of my secret plan. (No, *wink*, not trying to be just like you.) When I find the blogs, etc of people who are doing things that make me go "Ooooh!", especially if it is towards the same veins as things I like to do/want to be doing, I'll make sure to follow them. Because then, it will hopefully be little reminders to my self to follow up on all the projects that I dream up in my head.

[It's kind of like that Martha Graham quote: "There is a vitality, a life-force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost."]

I mean, look at all the awesomeness that everyone else is doing... I want to join in the fun! [I also figured that the best way to get to meet and play with all you fun creative people is to do something creative myself and contribute.]

It's one of the reasons I joined Amanda Palmer's Twitter following... though I didn't realize how prolific she was! LOL! Good thing I've got free incoming texts. It's like a dozen little "kick you in the bum and get you going already!" messages a day. ;o)

It's an iridescent matelasse, very deeply textured with a lot of sheen, but quite lightweight. I have a cocoon shaped jacket from it in deep purple ~ I bet it would look fantastic on you!
