I just put up some photos from the opening reception for the exhibit at: http://www.kambriel.com/exhibitopening.html
Click the image below to see *many* photos of my models & I at the gala opening, along with a few sneak peeks of some of the outfits on display (it's a good thing we took pictures when we did, because by the next day absolutely no photography was being allowed ~ even without flash)!

Be sure to check out the other photos (by clicking the above photo) to see what a beautiful job they did for celebrating opening night! The atmospheric lighting upstairs with silhouetted ravens in an homage to Poe and a lush red velvet backdrop with chandeliers (which we put to good use with impromptu photo shoots) all turned to mist after the reception, with nary a sign of their presence the next day. It just makes me all the more glad that we were busy taking pictures (in between all the interviews!) and capturing that moment in time so more of your can see how lovely it all was, and how much soul the curators put into this celebration of the Gothic aesthetic.
I particularly love the feel this photo evokes that I took of Tatiana in a one of a kind Suspiria Gown in front of the aforementioned vampiric velvet backdrop:

Oh, and look what I spotted on the re-vamped Museum at FIT exhibit website linked from the Mourning page ~ they made a page especially for my Midnight Bustle (be sure to turn the sound on your computer to get the website's full effect)! For those of you who haven't been able to see the exhibit in person, my designs are featured in the "Cult of Mourning" mise en scene, in the vignette right next to Mina's crimson gown from Copolla's "Dracula"... not a bad "next door neighbor" at all ;)

The next post I'll work on when I get some time will be some of what happened the *next* day when we suddenly found ourselves caught up in the hyperspeed of New York Fashion Week and got VIP'd into some couture fashion shows! Speaking of which we just happened to be staying in the same hotel with the Project Runway finalists getting ready for their big fashion show in Bryant Park ~ the finale episode for this is on tv tonight :)

Date: 2008-10-15 06:22 pm (UTC)I'm quite different from most designers in that it's always been my philosophy to add new designs rather than discontinue originals, so you're safe. As a matter of fact, I don't believe there's a single thing from The Premiere Collection in 1994 that I wouldn't be happily willing to make today.
I can't always say the same thing for specific fabrics and trims of course, but once I offer a new design, chances are I'm willing to make it from here on out.

Date: 2008-10-15 08:24 pm (UTC)The lighting and backdrop for the reception area where the velvet curtains were set up was exquisite. You can see why we felt compelled to utilize the backdrop start doing portraits of everyone. Amidst all the chaos, that was a really lovely, calm moment (plus, there was a bench nearby which gave us a chance to sit down for a few minutes).
Regarding Project Runway, I guess this is the season they emailed me about previously... how utterly ironic is it that we ultimately ended up in the same hotel at the same time anyway?!

Date: 2008-10-16 02:43 pm (UTC)When you go, if they have some out, could you please grab some extra exhibit brochures for me? I meant to get some extras to send to friends who aren't able to make it personally... It would be much appreciated!
