I've been wanting to share this ethereal gown I recently added to the shop, but a dear client immediately mentioned that she was dreaming of having it for her wedding in Australia, so I purposely kept quiet until she knew for certain in order to give her the best chance possible at making it her own.

Happily, it's now reserved for her, but I still wanted to share it just because I really love how the pieces ~ some of which are from vintage materials I've collected through the years, all came together:

Sitting upon the stairs in the haunted town for which the gown is named:

If you'd like to see the other photos of the gown, you can see them in the original listing here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/86692875/reserved-for-lei-iissa-haunted-romance

I do not have adequate words to describe how much I love this gown, and I've thought that since I first saw it on Etsy. :) The way you use materials and put them together is just awe-inspiring.

Gorgeous! I love the contrast. (I've been on a huge midnight blue kick lately.) I'm glad she was able to snag it for her wedding. :) (I'd say, how nice of you to set it aside for her, but I'd expect nothing else from you. ;) )

WTF? The earlier comment posted, even though mobile LJ told me that I'd input the wrong password and it didn't post. (Yes, Virginia, mercury is still in retrograde...)

Love the way you used that front panel, with the lace reaching out towards her heart!! Beautiful!

Always enjoy seeing your work, thanks so much for sharing!

Thank you so much Lisa... Your mention of putting fabrics together reminded me of when I was a little girl. I'd look at all of the materials in old quilts that had been made for me from scraps of this and that, and in my mind's eye would start pairing the tiny pieces together in new ways, imagining this one as the top part of a dress, that one as the lower half. I'd forgotten all about that!

Thanks! I had very nearly decided to just keep it for myself, but I'm thrilled that it found it's way into such an appreciative home :)

The sweet thing is that I really didn't have a "specific purpose" when I started putting it together ~ mainly I'd wanted to put the lace to good use, some of which came from a sweet elderly neighbor who'd grown up on a farm during the Great Depression and had recently passed away. I ~love~ that it ultimately grew into something that would mean so much to someone that they'd want to wear it for such a meaningful moment in their life.

You've got a gown that meets those qualifications ;)

That cell-phone picture you sent me when you'd first opened your wedding gown box, continues to this day to be one of the photos that can bring me So Much JOY.

I wanted it to have a dark contrast to show off the patterns and beading, but be a bit softer than black, hence the midnight blue ~ I'm glad you noticed!

Truly exquisite. In use of vintage collected fabrics, do you ever feel some of those pieces were uncannily, strangely destined to be what you make, in just that very combination/proportion/design and for that express purpose/person? "The Secret Life of a Fabriholic's Stash"...story suggestion for Mr. Gaiman????:)
