Presenting the mask I'll be utterly humbled to wear for the Portland Masquerade Ball one week from today; as created by the astonishingly gifted Phillip Valdez:

Lalique himself would be speechless.

I don't yet have the words myself... I just wish I'd known the end result before making (and packing) my dress for the event, since now of course I have limitless other ideas swirling around my head. I knew it would be something special, but Phillip went far above and beyond ~ and to think, it's "just" made of paper!

I was looking at it thinking it was amazing then noticed it was embossed paper! My goodness he does nice work. Can't wait to see pics of you wearing it.

Genius! Since it's light weight paper, I imagine it will wear really well! Can't wait to see photos of the entire ensemble! :)

I knew anything he created would be something special, but even I didn't quite envision ~this~.

Of course now I'm re-thinking the outfit (but it's already packed)! Hopefully I can do it *some* justice.

It being made of paper is one reason to pray for dry weather also...

It looks just like metal, I was thinking it would incredibly hard to wear, but it's paper?!

I'm sure that whatever you've got planned will be sensational, but I can imagine the Muses at work in your head and that you'd love a couple of extra days to see what else you could come up with!

Wow, that is fabulous!! When I saw the finished product, I thought it was metal, too! Oh, I can't wait to see pics of you with it on!! :D

And I'll get to see it in person. Wow.

I'm astonished by how much weight in appears to have. Aside from the mesemerising sense of movement, and the flawless design, the amount of skill needed to make paper look like metal is just beyond me. Incredible.

I feel like it's the sword in the stone and I need to see if the mask will *let* me wear it!

And the crimson painted sections look like intricate pliqué a jour enamel work!

They do!! It's seriously amazing. You are going to be the belle of the ball! (Well, you would be even if you didn't have such a great mask, but now you'll set the bar so high for everyone else!) :D *hugs*

It truly is. I'm amazed at the alchemy he has to transform something so simple into something so grand.

I can imagine you choreographing an entire dance inspired by it.

(Glad to hear your safely home again!)

I don't know about me personally, but I can see the mask itself being a belle of the ball! One is being made for C too (also with Art Nouveau inspiration) ~ and after seeing these pictures, to say he's intrigued at how his will turn out, would be a massive understatement :)
